For this picture I took the can outside and set a timer for 6 seconds as it was quite gloomy and dark outside, I placed the can on a table to have a steady image and removed the tape off for the time I had set, and therefore this allowed my picture to have enough exposure in order for the buildings and objects outside to develop.

Robert Cornelius’ Self-Portrait: The First Ever “Selfie” (1839)
The picture considered by many to be the first photographic portrait ever taken was a "selfie". The image in question was taken in 1839 by an amateur chemist and photography enthusiast from Philadelphia named Robert Cornelius. Setting up his camera at the back of the family store in Philadelphia, Cornelius took the image by removing the lens cap and then running into frame where he sat for a minute before covering up the lens again. On the back of the image he wrote "The first light Picture ever taken. 1839." |

Here is another example of a picture i developed in the darkroom using masking tape in different shapes and positions to create a slightly distorted effect. When developing this picture instead of dipping it in the developer, instead i dipped my paint brush into the developer and sprinkled some on the picture allowing it to drip and create a different effect.

Valerie Kabis - Is interested where shape is created by the restriction of light. By experimenting with light and shadow and experimenting with variations in lighting Kabis creates a series of dark and thought-provoking images. She focuses on lighting and movement and creating that blurred and distorted effect of a face however still has the main features being noticeable and pop out.

In this collage i really tried to use the same techniques as Ben watts by adding different notes around the pictures as he does with sharpie however i used different coloured crayons to differentiate it a bit i also included masking tape just like in a few of his pieces.
I cut out the outline of Muhammed Ali in order to create a 3D like effect in the collage and added different texts around the collage (some speeches he would say) in order to try and present some of his personality throughout the collage. |
For this collage i chose pictures from my camera roll and my social media of friends and events that i think represent a bit of who i am and what i am interested in.
I included pictures of Brazil and the world cup as i think this represents my family an i as we are from there and football is quite a big part of our lives and something we truly enjoy as a family. I also added pictures of friends close to me as i think friendships are something very important to me and i spend most of my time with them therefore including people close to me in my life is the best way to represent some of me. |
